Canedy Scholar Program

To honor the legacy of Clarkson Hospital Administrator, James A. Canedy, the “Canedy Scholar Program” was established to cultivate and educate new generations of physician leaders trained in both the business and medical aspects of healthcare. Mr. Canedy was a skilled manager of personnel, resources, ideas, and providing exemplary leadership to Clarkson Hospital for 36 years. Throughout his career, he placed strong emphasis on high quality patient care and believed in continuing education for health professionals.

Clarkson Regional Health Services (CRHS) established a scholarship program to equip physicians with the tools of healthcare leadership. CRHS has sponsored the Canedy Scholar Program since 2012. CRHS provides support for full tuition, board, room, and books to one Omaha physician annually to matriculate in the Executive MBA Program at the University of Colorado, Denver. This is a 16-month program designed for working healthcare professionals to earn their masters via a hybrid live and distance learning model.

Recently, the graduates of this program, called the Canedy Scholars, have coalesced to help address the most pressing health care needs in our community. This diverse group is dedicated to giving back through their advice, counsel and experience filtered through the knowledge gained from the MBA.

We are seeking physicians at any career stage who have a growth mindset, a demonstrated track record of leadership, a spirit of working across silos, and a long term vision to improve the Omaha community. Past scholars have included both physicians in private practice and academic physicians. The program requires an average of 10 hours of commitment per week and 1 week of travel to Denver every semester.

“In healthcare, to stay the same means to fall behind.

In my opinion, the physician has to remain the leader of the team.”

-James A. Canedy
